For their life of prayer and contemplation, the vast majority of monks and nuns seek the support of a religious community (cenobitism) and live in a monastery or convent, usually far from the towns. However, they can also live alone as hermits (eremitism). He is the leader of a regular community. The image of the abbot as \"representative of Christ\" and \"father of the community\" is very much influenced by the Rule of Saint Benedict (chapter 2). The term can also refer to a secular abbot.
